The Polestar 1 was built to prove that a performance hybrid could be both fast and beautiful -- 619 hp, a carbon-fibre body, and a production run of just 1,500 cars worldwide.
Reducing unsprung mass is one of the few modifications that improves an EV in every measurable way: range, handling, ride comfort, and brake wear. Factory wheels on the Polestar 1 weigh approximately 13-14 kg each. The Bete Noire Ver1.1, machined from a single 6061-T6 forged aluminium billet, cuts that to under 9.5 kg. Across four corners, you remove roughly 15-18 kg of rotating mass. The motors work less hard to accelerate and decelerate the wheels, the suspension responds faster to road imperfections, and the brakes -- both regenerative and friction -- operate more efficiently. Our forged vs flow-formed vs cast wheels guide explains the engineering in detail.
The Bete Noire Ver1.1 features nine thin, evenly spaced spokes with a slight outward flare near the lip, creating a refined multi-spoke pattern. The even spacing and thin profile give the wheel a watch-dial precision that matches the Polestar 1's Scandinavian design philosophy. In polished dark chrome it suits the Polestar 1's factory lines particularly well, though every wheel in Hodoor's AI programme is available in any finish you specify.

The Bete Noire Ver1.1 is part of Hodoor's AI wheel design programme. The system generates over 1,000 unique wheel concepts per day, each one engineered to be manufacturable as a forged monoblock. You are not choosing from a static catalogue -- the AI produces designs tuned to a specific car's dimensions, brake clearances, and visual character. The design phase is free. You only pay when a concept moves into production.
If none of the AI-generated options suit, our in-house designer can work from hand sketches or reference images. Either route leads to the same CNC-machined 6061-T6 billet, the same balancing and inspection process, and the same four-to-eight-week production timeline.
How much range can I gain with lighter wheels on the Polestar 1?
Real-world testing on EVs shows that reducing unsprung mass by 15-20 kg across four wheels can improve range by 2-4% depending on driving conditions. On the Polestar 1's ~124 km electric-only, that translates to roughly 10-20 km of additional range per charge. More detail in our performance wheels guide.
Will the regenerative braking system work normally with aftermarket wheels?
Yes. Regenerative braking is managed by the electric motors, not the wheels. The Bete Noire Ver1.1 design does not interfere with any sensor rings or ABS components. The bolt pattern (5x108), centre bore (63.4 mm), and offset are matched to factory specifications.
Are forged wheels safe for the Polestar 1's weight?
The Polestar 1 is a heavy vehicle, and forged 6061-T6 aluminium is the strongest wheel material available in the aftermarket. The grain structure of forged billets handles high load ratings significantly better than cast alternatives. Contact us for load-rated specifications.
